Important Puppy Information

Congratulations on choosing your new family member! We are thrilled and honored you chose one of our puppies to add to your family and we welcome your family to ours.

New puppies are a lot of work, as well as being very rewarding!  We are here to help answer questions and keep you encouraged along the way. In this note I have outlined some tips and tricks as well as some of the products we use and why. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me…I can be reached via phone, Facebook Messenger, or email.

We started breeding American Corgis in 2019. We have a relatively small program, and our dogs are all part of our family. They grow up and live in the house with us. We leash-train them, take them for car rides, and socialize them with other dogs, cats, kids of all ages, and people. They are family but they are also breeding dogs. We must be careful about scheduling parties, play dates, and other meetings around heat cycles, whelping, and our family schedule. We do like to remain available as much as possible for our puppy families because we enjoy it but also think it’s a very important element to our program! We know you, as a potential family, have a lot of choices and we are grateful that you chose us. We don’t take that lightly!

Becoming a Wigglebutts Puppy Owner

You may fill out an application that will tell me a little bit about yourself and will be the basis for our initial communication when we “meet” on a video chat. This is a good way for potential families to see the puppies and meet me face-to-face. I believe that taking your time to make this decision is important and I encourage anyone considering adding one of our puppies to ensure the whole family is on board.

I do keep wait lists for specific planned pairings. I do not require a deposit to be on the waitlist and I will post on the puppy page a confirmed pregnancy with a due date. Please note: all puppies are placed as pets only and we require proof of spay/neuter to fulfill the contract agreement, UNLESS you are an approved breeder. Please contact me directly to discuss this option.

Once we have both decided to move forward you choose your puppy and send a $500 deposit to hold that specific puppy. The $500 goes towards the final purchase price, which is due at the time of puppy pick-up. (Applicable Washington state sales tax does apply if you live in Washington and will be added to the total). The only time a deposit would be refunded is if something happened to the puppy or if you changed your mind within 48 hours of placing your deposit. I realize things can unexpectedly happen and there may be extenuating circumstances so it’s important to communicate with me. I am more than willing to work with you.

Visiting Your Puppy

I allow only families that have a deposit on a puppy to visit, not the public. As soon as the puppies are 2 weeks of age, I do allow families to meet their new puppy. I do not allow people in the puppy area but will bring your puppy to you to hold and take pictures. Depending on the weather, we will either be outside in a covered area or the house. At the end of your visit, I will sanitize the puppy before returning it to the litter. Hand washing and sanitizer are required before handling.

By the time the puppies are 4 weeks of age they are getting around pretty well and their personalities start to emerge. As the puppies age, we change the visitation protocol to suit the situation. A lot of families have asked to bring the other dogs into the household to meet the new puppy, thinking it will ease the shock perhaps for the other pets. We do not allow for this until you pick your puppy up, for the safety of the entire litter. I can go into more detail about this if you inquire.

Health, Wellness & Microchipped

We do follow a strict protocol for worming and vaccinations beginning at 2 weeks of age. All medications, dosages, and vaccines administered are documented and presented to you in a packet of puppy papers for your records and your vet’s records. The puppies visit the vet at 7 weeks for a wellness exam before leaving to their new homes.

Nemex II (for worms) at 2 & 4 weeks

Toltazuril (coccidia prevent.) at 3 & 5 weeks

Neopar (parvo vaccine) at 5 weeks

Safeguard (worms) 6 & 8 weeks

5-way (1st & 2nd vaccine) 7 & 11 weeks

Your puppy should receive 3 vaccinations, all 4 weeks apart to be effective in protecting them from communicable diseases. At the time the 3rd vaccine dose is administered, the vet will also give your puppy its first rabies vaccine and may suggest a Bordetella (kennel cough) or Leptospirosis vaccine at that time. I strongly suggest you skip the Leptospirosis shot until your puppy is at least 6 months of age and do not combine it with other vaccines. I am not a vet, and this is my personal preference. I do encourage each of you to do your own research and not just take the vet’s or my word for it. My reasoning for this is because of all the documented adverse reactions to the vaccine, and it is not considered one of the routine vaccines your puppy needs.

All puppies are microchipped before leaving our home and are registered to the new owners. I will be reaching out to the new owners for the following information: address, phone number, and email. Shortly after your puppy is registered you will receive an email from AKC Reunite welcoming you. At that time you can add other names and phone numbers to your puppy’s microchip. I remain on the microchip as the breeder but that will not interfere with your ability to add as many people as you desire.

Nutrition & Products we use

Our young & nursing dogs are fed Nutri-Source puppy chicken & rice formula and are supplemented with a multivitamin from NuVet.

New litters are started on puppy kibble soaked in water between 3 and 4 weeks of age. As they grow and develop their puppy teeth we slowly transition them from soaked kibble to dry kibble so that by the time they leave our home they are all eating dry kibble only.

Your puppy will come home with a 1.5 lb bag of puppy food from Nutri-Source along with manufacturer coupons which will give you time to get more or transition him to the food you are going to feed.

Registration

Our Corgi puppies all come with registration papers. The Corgis are American Corgis, which are a cross between the Pembroke Welsh Corgi and the Cardigan Welsh Corgi (which is why we have the merle and brindle color patterns). The American Kennel Club does not register this breed because it combines two breeds. However, the Continental Kennel Club does…so your puppy will be registered with the CKC. If you have any questions about filling out the registration papers, I can help you at the time of puppy pick-up. Keep in mind you will need to think about a registered name as well as a call name.

Genetic Testing

We genetically test all the dogs we intend to breed. Since most of our dogs come from other breeders, we buy puppies that we know come from tested parents, so we know what we are adding to our program. Once they arrive here, we run our own genetic through Gensol laboratories to verify the results we are expecting and to find. Knowing the genetic make-up of each dog is vital in planning pairings for future puppy litters. Our goal is to breed healthy, happy, well-adjusted puppies that come from healthy, happy, well-adjusted parents. We share the results of each breeding dog’s tests in folders designated for that dog on our puppy page. Since we do have some breeding dogs that carry one gene of some inherent diseases, we individually test each puppy at birth to know if they have also inherited that copy of the gene. A dog that carries one copy of an inherited disease gene is referred to as a carrier not affected or a carrier not at risk. A dog that does not carry any copies of any inherited diseases is referred to as a triple clear so all puppies born here will either be carriers not at risk or triple clear and you will receive the printed results in your puppy packet for your specific puppy. Only dogs that carry 2 genes for the disease are at risk of developing the disease. The 3 main diseases most breeders test for are DM (Degenerative Myelopathy), EIC (Exercise-induced collapse), and VWD1 (Von Willebrand’s disease).

 Insurance

We are very happy to be able to send your puppy home with a month of free pet insurance through Trupanion. I will sign your puppy up with Trupanion and they will send you a welcome email to continue with registration. It is your choice to accept the free month trial and/or to continue with the insurance plan. You will receive information in the email from Trupanion as well as in your puppy packet

Guarantee & Support

We do offer a 1-year genetic disease and health guarantee. All puppies leave here healthy and if you have any concerns, please contact us right away so we can communicate with both you and your vet to develop a plan of action.

We do offer lifetime breeder support and will take the puppy/dog back at any time for any reason. We will ensure a new loving suitable home is found and take care of all necessary screening for as seamless a transition as possible. There will always be a rehoming fee, but it may not be as much as the initial cost of the puppy. You will be refunded the rehoming fee less any necessary vet expenses. We understand things happen and you will not ever receive any judgment from us. You are part of the family and we both want what is best for the dog and believe we can work together to achieve this. I have families that reach out to me often in search of an older puppy or adult dog that needs a loving home.

If there are any other questions you may have that I have not answered here please contact me directly, I am always available!

Congratulations on your new puppy! We wish you years and years of happiness and love with your new best friend!
